Fifty Fiction is a social enterprise, and as such it is committed to donating a portion of its proceeds to charity. It is particularly keen to support grassroots arts and literary organisations that encourage writing and other imaginative pursuits to those who lack resources at home. As Fifty Fiction grows, so will its charity-base, but we are thrilled to be starting out by supporting a new non-profit in East London, called The Hackney Pirates. This exciting organisation encapsulates many of the values and methods that Fifty Fiction loves.
The Hackney Pirates is an innovative new education project which develops literacy and creativity with young people in East London. We are creating an out of school learning hub that gives young people one-to-one attention in an unconventional environment, using the incredible resource of individuals employed in the creative industries in Hackney.
Although Fifty Fiction accepts submissions from around the world, it is currently only looking to support UK-based organisations. However there are numerous individuals across the globe who are contributing innovative ideas to arts and literary charities, and who have the same high standards for both writing and design as Fifty Fiction. Wherever you are, if you’re a young person looking to develop your own writing (and design) skills, or if you are an adult looking for awesome volunteering opportunities there are tons of opportunities available.
For many years 826 Valencia (and its sister chapters in the USA) has been leading the vanguard for publishing beautiful texts written by young people. In Australia, the heavenly Pigeons Projects is flying high in Melbourne. And in Denmark, Hygge Factory is an inventive resource for the young in and around Copenhagen. If you want to find out more information about what is available near where you live, email us (info@fiftyfiction.org) and we’ll do our best to help.
